Abstract
This study examined the determinants of catfish (Clarias spp) production in Nsukka local government
area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Specifically, factors influencing catfish production and the challenges faced
by catfish farmers in the area were assessed. Multistage sampling techniques were used to select 40
catfish farmers in the area. Data were collected using structured questionnaire and analyzed using likerttype
rating technique and multiple regression analysis. The significant variable were quantity of
fingerlings, cost of water and quantity of feed at p<5%. Among the constraints experienced by the
farmers were high cost of feed, high cost of water, lack of access to capital and unavailability of better
breed fingerlings. Policy aimed at addressing water problems and provision of feed at a subsidized rate
will boost catfish production in the area.
