Abstract
The study analyzed the economics of broiler bird production in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe
State, Nigeria. A total of 51 farmers were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were
collected using structured questionnaires administered on the broilers farmers. Gross margin and net
farm income were found to be ₦27,440,750 and ₦26,804,079.6, respectively. The results obtained from
the regression analysis revealed that the variables X2 (flock size) and X9 (drugs) had positive relationship
with the output and were significant at 1% level of probability. Variables X6 (water) and X8 (litter
material) had positive relationship with the output and were significant at 5% level of probability. X10
(chicken cost) had an inverse relationship with the output and was significant at 5% level of probability.
The respondents identified lack of finance and disease outbreak as their major problem in broiler
production in the study area. It is therefore recommended that government should provide assistance in
giving loans to the farmers and also farmers should adhere to the vaccination programmes of the expert
for the birds (broilers) and ensure personal hygiene to avert disease outbreak.
