Abstract
The study analyzed the technical efficiency, of cassava processors in Abia State. Specifically, the study examined the socio-economic characteristics of the cassava processors in relation to their technical efficiency; estimated the technical efficiency of cassava processors and classify them into technical and non-technical efficient. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 120 respondents. Primary data were collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ration approach. Results showed that the respondents were predominantly females, middle-aged, with a mean age of 47 years. Educated cassava processors were highly technically efficient. The mean technical efficiency was 0.75. A total of 61 processors (50.83%) were technically efficient (≥0.75), while 59 (49.17%) were inefficient (<0.75). Due to the high proportion of processors operating below optimal efficiency, extension services should intensify efforts in disseminating modern processing technologies and best practices to improve efficiency.
